Superfood Loaded Chocolate Smoothie Bowl

Chocolate for breakfast? You know it! We are not talking about dessert though. We are talking about a tasty and highly nutritious smoothie bowl that is sure to tingle your taste buds!

The chocolate smoothie of your dreams is easier and healthier than you might think! Smoothies, smoothie bowls, and “nice cream” are all fantastic avenues to boost your veggie and superfood intake, and this gooey chocolate creation is no exception. Actually, it’s the perfect vessel to deliver whole food supplements and superfoods that will nourish your body all day long.

For this recipe, we utilized both Mind and Forest to harness the power of both organic Wild Microalgae® and our favorite blend of superfood mushrooms. The best part? When you mix all of these ingredients together, the only thing you can taste is chocolatey goodness. It is truly the perfect combination of delicious and nutritious.

Let’s talk about chocolate for a minute. We are talking high-quality, delicious dark chocolate with a minimum of 70 percent ground cacao, a mixture of cacao butter (a natural oil) and ground cacao seed. The power is in the cacao seed as it contains a variety of phytochemicals including polyphenols (flavonols) and methylxanthines. These compounds have been studied extensively and have shown to benefit the brain, mood and cognitive function.

Chocolate isn’t the only mood-boosting ingredient in this smoothie. Mind contains a molecule called Phenylethylamine, or PEA, that exists throughout nature. Often referred to as a “feel-good” chemical, PEA is naturally produced by the body and is also found in fungi, bacteria, and our own organic Wild Microalgae, a blue-green algae called Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA).

Ok, so we have the brain, mood and cognitive function covered in one delicious smoothie but that just wasn’t enough for us so we turned to Forest, a proprietary blend of organic reishi, maitake, cordyceps, Poria cocos, and Wild black trumpet, designed to support a healthy immune system and energetic life.

Just like that, we had the added benefits of immune and energy support we were looking for. Now for the taste because, well, we like to enjoy our food; not choke it down.

The key to making this smoothie gooey like a chocolate brownie is texture! For this recipe, dates, cocoa nibs, and a little bit of dark chocolate were the perfect combo to satisfy that sweet tooth. The trick to adding dates to a smoothie is to pop them into some hot water for two minutes. The hot water will soften the date, making them easier to blend!

Now, finally, the recipe…

Ingredients
1½ frozen bananas
⅓ cup almond milk (add more as needed)
2 dates
1 serving dark chocolate chopped
1 tbsp Cocoa powder
1 Serving chocolate protein powder
½ tbsp Carob powder
3 Emptied capsules of Mind
3 Emptied capsules of Forest

Directions
Add the banana (Pro tip: freezing bananas will give you a perfectly smooth and sweet base for any smoothie) and almond milk, then blend until you reach a smooth “ice cream-like” texture. Next, add in the cocoa powder, chocolate protein powder, carob powder, and New Earth capsules. You’re going to want to add splashes of water or milk along the way to ensure a smooth blend. Once smooth, pour into a bowl, top with your favorite ingredients (peanut butter, coconut flakes, chopped nuts…) and enjoy!
